Public Philosophy

My approach to public engagement is firmly rooted in a participatory, inclusive, and community-centered pedagogy. This approach is carefully cultivated to decentralize learning and amplify the voices of those traditionally underrepresented in philosophy and science, such as women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those with limited access to higher education. I strive to demystify philosophical and scientific investigation by focusing on key areas of one’s relationship to both fields, such as identity and trust. My public engagement strategy is a fusion of my experiences in industry and academia, with a particular emphasis on the former.

Guilty Pleasures: A Sonic Session

In April, co-hosted an interactive, interdisciplinary event called "Guilty Pleasures: A Sonic Session." We combined ideas in philosophy, psychology, and aesthetics to investigate various dimensions of guilt grounded in aesthetic appreciation and science.

Thanks to UC's Center for the Public Engagement with Science and Mercantile Library for supporting this event.

Community-Centered Object Interpretation

In collaboration with The Cincinnati Museum Center’s (CMC) Program Development team and UC’s Center for Public Engagement with Science, I developed an object interpretation activity grounded in co-curation, an approach that emphasizes community perspectives and engagement in various aspects of exhibit design. This project engaged guests in hands-on object interpretation of trilobite fossils native to the Cincinnati region. CMC inspires people of all ages to learn more about the world through science; regional history; and educational, engaging, and meaningful experiences. By engaging in this activity, participants engaged in new kinds of meaning-making, creating object labels that may be on display in the museum.
